Groundbreaking for Residences at Govt Center

Come to the groundbreaking ceremony for the Residences at the Government Center, a 270-unit affordable rental apartment community on the grounds of Fairfax County’s Government Center. The complex will be situated on just over eight wooded acres facing Monument Drive, across from Fairfax Corner.  Clearing and grading of the land started around April 8 and should be complete in the beginning of June.

“The Residences at the Government Center will offer more affordable housing options for county employees, as well as others who live and work in Fairfax County,” notes Kurt Creager, Director, Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development. “This is a great step forward for the county.”

The first units are scheduled to be available by October 2016, with the project completed that December. Designated as workforce housing, the rental units will be restricted to households earning up to 60 percent of the area median income (AMI), and at least 20 percent of the units will be held for households at or below 50 percent of the AMI. The area median income for the Washington DC metropolitan area is just over $100,000.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Residences at the Government Center will be held on May 5, 2015 at 1:30pm in the Fairfax County Government Center Forum.
