By the year 2045, the Greater Washington Region will face an estimated shortfall of more than 320,000 housing units.
This will exacerbate the already fierce competition for housing that is affordable in a region where nearly 50% of renters and more than 25% of homeowners are housing cost-burdened.

Significant financial investment and changes in land use systems and policies are necessary to address the region’s growing housing shortage. The Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance advocates for the systems-level changes that are needed to increase the supply of housing that is affordable in a manner that is equitable and inclusive of all Northern Virginia residents.

Educate and engage the community on housing issues, including the impact of housing on racial and health equity,

Research unmet needs, and new and existing strategies to increase housing supply and expand access to opportunities and resources,

Advocate for funding and policy changes that facilitate the development and preservation of affordable housing in Northern Virginia jurisdictions.
