History
NVAHA – Fairfax was formed as part of the Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance (NVAHA) expansion to address local housing needs across Northern Virginia. Following the successful merger with the Arlington-based Alliance for Housing Solutions in 2023, NVAHA applied this model to Fairfax County, where housing affordability remains a pressing issue.
In October 2024, NVAHA hired a dedicated Fairfax Director, Anika Rahman, to lead local advocacy efforts, ensuring that Fairfax residents have access to affordable, safe housing. The alliance works closely with local government, community organizations, and stakeholders to advance the goals of Fairfax County’s Housing Strategic Plan, promoting policies that support the creation and preservation of affordable and workforce housing.
NVAHA staff have been long-time appointed members of the Fairfax County Affordable Housing Advisory Council (AHAC) and related County Task Forces. NVAHA also serves on various committee and coalitions including Fairfax Healthy Communities, Fairfax NAACP Housing Committee, and COMMUN1TY+ Safety & Neighborhood Livability.
With strong leadership and a focus on collaboration, the NVAHA – Fairfax is committed to making Fairfax County an inclusive community for residents of all income levels.
