Progress Meets Opportunity – Jurisdictional Spotlights

Northern Virginia (or “NoVa,” as the locals call it) is generally regarded to include the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Stafford and Prince William, as well as the independent cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas, and Manassas Park.  It is a widespread region radiating westward and southward from Washington, D.C. With 3,197,076 people according to the 2020 Census (37.04 percent of Virginia’s total population), it is the most populous region of Virginia and the Washington metropolitan area.

General housing resources and accomplishments:

SPOTLIGHT ON…PROGRESS

All four of the jurisdictions spotlighted below have adopted and are implementing multi-year Affordable Housing Master Plans and have local Housing Trust Funds (some funds are larger and better capitalized than others). Both these elements – housing plan and housing trust fund – are considered best practices and essential building blocks for a robust local government housing strategy.

Opportunities Ahead

Housing is a Growing Priority for Our Region and NVAHA is Expanding! Political leadership in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties campaigned for a more affordable, equitable supply of housing in Northern Virginia. Support our mission and our programs and help us keep our elected officials accountable to the challenges and opportunities ahead!

We envision a future in which Northern Virginia provides housing opportunities for all.

The mission of the Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance is to promote healthy, sustainable and equitable communities that meet the diverse housing needs of Northern Virginia residents.
