NVAHA 15 – Accomplishment #8 (2011): NVAHA Organizes First Regional Northern Virginia Housing Opportunities Expo

NVAHA organized the first ever “Northern Virginia Housing Opportunities Expo.” This event was hosted by NVAHA in cooperation with six jurisdictions including:  the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church, Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudon Counties, and the Town of Herndon. NVAHA also received coordination support from two financial institutions that are part of Cardinal Financial Corporation

NVAHA 15 – Accomplishment #7 (2009): A Regional Response to Ending Homelessness

NVAHA collaborated with the Alliance to End Homelessness to convene a regional forum to address homelessness in Northern Virginia. Over 120 attendees from across Northern Virginia came together to identify shared challenges among jurisdictions and to provide recommendations. Their recommendations were published in “Homeless in Northern Virginia: Local Communities Respond to Preventing and Ending Homelessness.”

NVAHA 15 – Accomplishment #6 (2006): NVAHA Sponsors First Regional Legislative Forum on Housing

NVAHA sponsored a half-day legislative forum to identify barriers to the development of affordable housing in our region. The forum brought together over 130 Northern Virginia legislators, housing and smart growth advocates, as well as business leaders. NVAHA 15 – Accomplishment #5 (2019): NVAHA Hosts “Hybla Valley/Gum Springs Community Listening Session” to Create a Shared Vision for Northern Virginia’s Richmond Highway

The Embark Richmond Highway is a new land-use plan in Fairfax County that will support walking, biking and a bus rapid transit system on Richmond Highway. This plan will also create more than 18,000 new housing units, 8.5 million square feet of nonresidential development, and interconnected parks along a 7.5 mile stretch from Huntington Avenue

NVAHA 15 – Accomplishment #3 (2005, 2018): NVAHA Advocates for Financial Resources at the Local Level to Support Housing Production

NVAHA led two important advocacy initiatives to raise resources at the local level to support affordable housing production. The first was a 2005 campaign for the creation of an Affordable Housing Trust Fund for Fairfax County. NVAHA 15- Accomplishment #2 (2005-2010): NVAHA Takes a Seat at the Table to Shape the Future of Tysons Corner Urban Center

In 2004 the final Environmental Impact Statement for the Metrorail’s Silver Line was adopted, identifying four transit stations in Tysons.
